Swimming pool, cafeteria, campsite or playground.
The cramped unfamiliarity of the crowd creates certain anxiety. The presence of the other makes us aware of our own corporeal vulnerability and conjures our awareness of an unknown future. I explore the mundane agony of trying to be alone despite being together with others through a series of eight looping animations that deliver distillations of recognizable moments of anxiety with lightly comic gestures. These moving paintings dramatize the kinetic tensions that arise when bodies find themselves in close proximity to on another, whether swimming in a pool, eating at a cafeteria, camping in a park, or walking down a city sidewalk.
